"Loves Me, Loves Me Not" was set on Jackson Park Lagoon, creating a whimsical, post-apocalyptic world where people lived on the rooftops of submerged houses.
One week before opening, Hurricane Katrina hit. We had one week to scrap the entire show and rebuild it as a meditative ritual. Every message has context, and as contexts shift, the work must respond. |

PlayMakers Laboratory creates original performances written entirely by Chicago Public School students and performed by professional actors. Every word on stage is from a young person.
The company of actors, dancers, and musicians has a strict, 18-hour rehearsal schedule to adapt, compose, choreograph, design, and stage a brand-new, hour-long show. The constraint isn't just logistical. The work has to be good enough to honor the students who trusted us with it. |
