benefits sneak peek
I was asked to come up with a configurable video that was upbeat and playful (but not unprofessional) that would fit in with our entire client base: from corporate law firms to labor unions.
What do all those workplaces have in common? That time-honored, tech-agnostic institution, The Break Room Bulletin Board.
This is the project where I learned the difference between directing live theater and directing video.
Early versions featured lively characters interacting with the pushpin on each card. I wanted to keep the energy up and really present the pushpin as a character. It was, unfortunately, SO lively that no one read the actual messages on the cards.
We adjusted the animation so the characters would pause and throw their focus on the written messages - this helped the user focus on them as well.

"I've been fortunate enough to work with Lacy for a number of years, most recently as a director on Jellyvision's first configurable video product, Benefits Sneak Peek. To say we wouldn't have been able to reach so far without her curiosity about the form and relentless drive to discover what was possible is an understatement: we simply wouldn't have been able to make it."

Fun fact:
The idea to feature a plucky, traveling pushpin while jamming to some sweet tunes came from everyone's favorite pinball video.
